Word Mashup Is Live — And It Started With a Dog, a Beach, and a Stubborn Idea

Word Mashup is live — a daily word puzzle where you combine tile fragments to build compound words. Free daily puzzle, no ads, no tricks. Built with craft by Diogee Games on Florida's Space Coast.

I've been building software for over two decades. Shipped platforms, scaled systems, wrestled production fires at 3 AM with nothing but black coffee and sheer spite. But I'll tell you something — nothing hit different like watching my first game go live.

Word Mashup is here. It's live at wordmashup.app, and I'm proud as hell of it.

What Is Word Mashup?

It's a daily word puzzle. But not like the ones you've played before.

You get a set of word tiles — two-letter and three-letter fragments — and your job is to smash them together to form real compound words. Think BOOK+ KEEP+ ER= BOOKKEEPER. Simple concept. Deceptively tricky execution.

Every day there's a free puzzle waiting for you. No account needed, no paywall blocking your morning brain stretch. Just you, the tiles, and that satisfying click when the pieces fall into place.

If you catch the bug (and you will), there's an archive of hundreds of puzzles across three difficulty levels — Easy, Medium, and Expert — available with a premium subscription.

Why a Word Game?

I get asked this a lot. "Jax, you've built enterprise platforms. Why word tiles?"

Honestly? Because I was sitting on the beach one evening, Diogee curled up next to my chair, watching the tide push shells together and pull them apart. Fragments making something whole, then breaking apart, then finding new combinations. That's the game right there. That's what Word Mashup feels like.

I wanted to build something people could pick up in two minutes while waiting for coffee. Something that makes your brain light up without draining your battery or your wallet. Something with craft behind it — a game built with intention, not another throwaway time-killer.

Small games. Big heart. That's literally our motto at Diogee Games, and Word Mashup is the proof.

What Makes It Different?

If you're a Wordle player, you'll feel right at home with the daily ritual. But Word Mashup isn't about guessing a single word — it's about building. You're assembling fragments, which means you're thinking about word structure in a completely different way.

If you like crosswords, think of this as the physical, hands-on cousin. No clues. No grid. Just pieces that want to become words, and you're the one who makes it happen.

Three things set Word Mashup apart:

  1. The tactile satisfaction. Dragging tiles, snapping fragments together, hearing that lock-in — it feels good in a way most word games don't bother with.

  2. Difficulty that respects you. Easy puzzles are genuinely welcoming. Expert puzzles will have you staring at the ceiling muttering compound words at 11 PM. The range is real.

  3. Straightforward pricing. The daily puzzle is free. Premium unlocks the full archive — $4.99/month or $29.99/year. No dark patterns, no pay-to-win gimmicks. You always know what you're getting.

The Studio Behind the Game

Diogee Games is an indie studio based on the Space Coast of Florida. Named after my co-founder — a fierce little mini schnauzer named Diogee (D.O.G. to the initiated) who supervises every line of code from her spot on the couch.

We're small by design. I believe the best games come from people who care more about the player experience than the quarterly metrics. Word Mashup was built by hand, tested obsessively, and polished until the tiles felt right.

This is our first launched title, and it won't be the last. But right now, all the love is on Word Mashup.

Play It Today

Here's the deal — go to wordmashup.app and play today's free puzzle. Takes about five minutes. If you hate it, you lost five minutes. If you love it, you just found your new morning ritual.

And if you really love it, grab the premium subscription and dive into the archive. Hundreds of puzzles. Three difficulty levels. No limits.

We're just getting started.
